Helpful Hints: Bobbin Tension
Bobbin tension needs to be set correctly before the top tension is adjusted or you will never have correct tension overall.
1. Fill the bobbin to capacity
2. Make sure bobbin thread is wound very tight
3. Drop the bobbin in the bobbin case with the thread tail laying from top down on the right side.
4. Put thread tail through slot on right side up into the small hole
5. When pulling on thread tail, bobbin should turn clockwise
6. Lay bobbin case with filled bobbin facing up in one hand
7. Pick up the thread tail with the other hand
8. Hold the thread tail above the bobbin case
9. Slowly start to lift up on the thread tail
10. The weight of the case should come off your hand but not completely out of your hand as the thread tail lengthens
11. If bobbin case will not lift off your hand, tension is too loose
12. The large screw on the side of the case needs to be tightened
13. If bobbin case lifts off your hand, tension is too tight
14. The large screw on the side of the case needs to be loosened
15. Always remember, “Left is Loose, Right is Tight”
16. The adjustment should only be made about the width of a pencil mark each time you adjust.
17. After adjusting each time redo your steps until you match #10
18. The bobbin needs to be checked for adjustment this way each time you put a new full bobbin in
19. As soon as the bobbin case matches #10 your bobbin tension is set and should not have to be readjusted, unless you change type/size of thread
